Are Computers For Me?  (up to a two hour session)

What can a computer do?  Are you uncertain as to how to begin using one? This is a personalized introduction for those not quite ready for the courses listed here.  Call 429-0262 for your one-on-one meeting with an instructor. Your next step might be to take Introduction to Computers.

Introduction to Computers:

For beginners, an introduction to computer operation, the mouse & keyboard keys.  Use the Internet to search a topic, whether stamp collecting, a vacation, or auto repair.  Compose and send an email message.  Demonstration of word processing and management of stored files.    

Fee: $10.00

Word Processing:

Do you want to write and save a chapter in your diary, type address labels for holiday greetings, prepare a tag sale flier, cut/copy/paste a picture to an email message, or add page numbers, a grandson's photo, or special characters to a prepared report?  Practice in editing and saving your files and folders.  You are encouraged to complete a project of your choice.

PowerPoint: 

Where we once used 2x2 color slides, we now create a PowerPoint presentation. Individual pictures can be altered, copied, combined, or copy/paste materials from the Internet. Use photos of sites visited in another country, or those of a recent family gathering to prepare and organize a presentation for friends or a group.  Using a grid format, prepare a background template, color scheme or titles, notes, or data to personal photographs.  Organize your photos.

Making Music With A Computer:

(Max. five students)-  Prerequisite:  Must be able to read music.  Class to be held offsite.

Internet Workshop:  

Prerequisite:  Introduction to Computers or equivalent.  Electronic communication through e-mail.  Searching for information via the world-wide web.

Quicken - Your Personal Financial Records:

(Max. six students) Prerequisite: Introduction to Computers or equivalent.  Learn how to use the Quicken program to record and classify income and expense transactions.  The stored data can be helpful in reconciling bank statements, preparing income tax returns, budgeting, and financial planning.  Investment tracking, on-line banking and investing, asset inventories, and financial calendars will be discussed as time and interest permit.

Digital Photo Processing:

Prerequisite: Introduction to Computers or equivalent & some familiarity with e-mail would be helpful.

Publisher: 

Are you part of a non-profit organization that needs to advertise events?  Do you want to learn how to make simple, eye catching flyers, brochures and greeting cards?   This class will cover the basics of Microsoft Publisher including how to choose a template, inserting text and pictures, using the Internet to search for pictures, picking color schemes and printing out your document
