Art work on display at Mansfield Community Center
October 15 - January 15

Sitting Room: Jay Ames

Display Cases: William Stallman

Hallways: Sylvia Smith

A professional artist and illustrator Sylvia Smith received her B.A. in ceramics and illustration from Providence College. She has worked as a professional illustrator, graphic artist, window dresser, calligrapher and as a production potter. Additionally she has worked in many mediums including watercolor and acrylic paint, pen and ink, silkscreen, faux finishes, papermaking, polymer clay and mural painting.

The paintings currently on display are part of a collaborative effort between artist Sylvia Smith and writer/researcher Paula Perry about universal truths.  “The Illumination Series” is part of a larger body of work intended for book illustration.  Each picture accompanies quotations and sources of belief that historically have been shared by many cultures.

Incorporating a combination of mediums, natural elements, and mono-printing these abstract designs are a departure from Ms. Smith’s typical style of illustration.  Some of the paintings are for sale.  Sylvia Smith is a resident of Storrs, CT Sylvia Smith
