Carpooling and ride sharing to work or for local trips helps cut our gasoline and vehicle costs, reduces congestion on the roads, helps reduce air pollution and provides an opportunity to get to know other town residents.
According to the 2001 estimates in Your Driving Costs published by the American Automobile Association, the total cost of owning, maintaining and operating a vehicle was 51 cents per mile. Cars cost drivers over $1 trillion per year. If everyone who drives alone to work was to carpool once a week the cost would reduce by 25%! Carpooling is a simple way for us to take part in the climate change challenge.
