| Notes: | Author Marty Podskoch will present a program on the New Deal's Civilian Conservation Corps camps in the Adirondacks and Connecticut. 2008 is the 75th anniversary of the founding of the CCC. Set up to relieve poverty and unemployment during the Great Depression, CCC workers built campsites, dams, fire tower cabins, roads, and trails in addition to fighting fires and planting millions of trees. Although the program was disbanded in 1942, the work of the CCC has made a lasting contribution to conservation. In addition to his presentation, Marty is also interested in meeting anyone who may have participated in the CCC. He will have copies of his books for sale. This event, co-sponsored by the Mansfield Historical Society, is open to the public at no charge. For additional information please contact the library at 860-423-2501. |
