COURSE DESCRIPTION:
The basic forms and usages of Latin are studied through the CAMBRIDGE
LATIN COURSE: UNITS I, IIA and IIB. The
goals of the course meet the five National Standards of Classical Language

the Roman Empire (with settings in Pompeii, Roman Britain and Alexandria during
the first century), the building of Latin vocabulary with English cognates and
derivatives, and the basic skills necessary to translate primary Latin prose
are emphasized. Students are asked to
enter state and national contests requiring knowledge of the language and culture
of the Romans and to make connections between the ancient world and today’s
political, social, and artistic traditions.
This two-year sequence is equivalent to a level I
