Variables
In general, data tables should have the following
format:
Independent Variable (What you modify) |
Dependent Variable (What you Measure) |
Average of the Trials |
Trial 1 |
Trial 2 |
Trial 3 |
For example, if you are interested in how take-off
time is affected by the mass of a model rubber-powered plane, your table would
like the following:
Mass (g) of a rubber-powered plane |
Time (seconds) to Take-off |
Average Time (seconds) to Take-off |
Trial 1 |
Trial 2 |
Trial 3 |
15 g |
18 g |
21 g |
When making graphs, the independent variable should be
placed along the bottom of the x-axis. The dependent variable should be placed on
the side of the y-axis.
