Zygote = |

The single cell that results from fertilization of an ovum by a sperm. |

Morula = |
|
The morula is a solid ball of
cells comprised of 16 à 64 cells. The morula results from numerous mitotic
divisions (cleavage). During this stage of development, the |

Blastocyst = |
|
The blastocyst is a liquid-filled
ball of cells. This stage of development occurs around 5 – 8 days after
conception. Implantation in the endometrium
occurs at this stage. |

Embryo = |
|
The human is considered an
embryo from implantation until about 8 weeks after conception. |
|
Fetus = |
|
8 weeks after conception until birth. |
