What does the kitchen have to do with the library? A lot! The kitchen has been transformed into "The Enchanted Forest" for the month of December. It is part of an on-going year long project entitled "Lunch Time Literacy Links." Each month children's books are selected collaboratively between Mrs. Rotchford, of the Goodwin library, and Mrs. Mills, the school lunch manager. Similar to Children's Book Week when the spaghetti and meatballs lunch was linked to Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, the lunch menu will be linked to books of fun, fantasy, and adventure. In the future Mrs. Mills will feature recipe reading for delicious, nutritious treats and then the Goodwin students can take them home and read and make these recipes with their families. If you have the opportunity to read the stories with your child it will make the Enchanted Book Week (December 17 - 21) even more fun. The school lunch menu lists all the books featured in the enchanted forest.
The featured stories are:
First Snow, Magic Snow by John Cech
Hansel & Gretel by Brothers Grimm
Owl Moon by Jane Yolen
Annie and the Wild Animals by Jan Brett
The Gumdrop Tree by Elizabeth Spurr
